Identified Goals
Each goal was assigned strategies for implementation and will be used to address locations on the High Injury Network. The strategies were divided into short, mid and long-term priorities. Several approaches will be considered for implementing based on Crash Reduction Framework. This framework includes a recommended Implementation Approach for each strategy. Approaches are selected based on the complexity of the problem.
Reduce fatalities and serious injuries by 5% annually moving towards zero preventable serious injury and fatal crashes by 2050.
Reduce severe crashes related to unbelted, distracted, speeding, and impaired drivers through sustained education and enforcement programs.
Increase support for all proven safety countermeasures and funding for safety projects.
Increase resources for first responders and others providing trauma care and support to people involved in severe crashes.
Empower the community to celebrate policies and programs that prioritize safety of residents and visitors.
Implement robust and systemic safety projects at all high-risk roads and intersections.
safety action Plan
Safety Action Plans (SAP) aim to prevent fatalities and serious injuries affecting all roadway users. Plans use data analysis to understand community safety problem to strengthen projects and identify the best approach that address the most significant safety risks. The Safe System Approach guides safety plans by focusing on improving safety culture, anticipating human behavior, and increasing stakeholder participation.
The following corridors and intersections have been identified as locations on the high injury network (HIN), areas that have high numbers of people who have been killed or severely injured in traffic crashes. Developing a HIN helps identify where crashes occur repeatedly and why allowing the opportunity to prioritize funding in areas that need it most.
